The Prince Gorchakov portrait was painted before the parade one, it was exposed on the exhibition dedicated to Köler´s 175 anniversary of birth in Estonian Art Museum in 2001 and deposited since 1997 to the Embassy of Russia, where it decorated Ambassador´s office.

Johann Köler (1826-1899), founder of estonian art of painting, best artist of Estonia, studied in St. Petersburg Academy of Arts 1848-1855 and continued his training in Berlin, Paris, Netherlands, Belgium. Köler was Great Princess Maria Alexandrovna´s teacher of art in 1862.

Prince Alexander Gorchakov – Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs 1856-1882, since 1867 also State Chancellor, was born in Hapsal (Haapsalu) in 1798. J. Köler painted his parade portrait in 1867. For this portrait him was given title of Professor in St. Petersburg Academy of Arts.
